Job Requirements:

Vision: Possess 20/40 corrected vision and be free of colorblindness
College: No. However, persons who have successfully obtained an Associate's Degree in law enforcement or criminal justice - OR - a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university are eligible for 5 preference points and a 5% increase in pay. A copy of unofficial transcripts must be submitted (upon request) to qualify.
Academy Certification: Within six months of the date of initial employment
Prior Experience: No
Necessary Certifications: Valid state-issued driver's license
Authorized under federal law to obtain, carry, purchase, or otherwise possess a firearm
Additional Requirements:

Resident of the State of Illinois;
No felony convictions (Note: a misdemeanor or serious traffic offense may also disqualify applicants from further consideration);
Must be UNDER 35 years of age, subject to the age exception provisions of 65 ILCS 5/10- 2.1-6(d). To qualify for the age exception applicable to an applicant already employed as a police officer, the applicant must have been so employed, continuously and on a full-time basis, for the 365 days immediately before the date of application;
Must reside within 35 miles of the Village of Carpentersville village limits within one year of being hired;
Must pass the State standard P.O.W.E.R. Test by the final eligibility list posting date.

Hiring Process:

Completion and submission of an application.
Completion and submission of the National Testing Network written examination (a passing score of 75% required).
Oral interview(s)
Background investigation
Polygraph examination
Candidates receiving a conditional job offer will be required to pass a psychological examination, medical examination, and drug screening

Preference Points

A maximum of (5) preference points will be awarded as determined by the Village of Carpentersville for any one of the following:

Education: Persons who have successfully obtained an Associate's Degree in law enforcement or criminal justice - OR - a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Unofficial transcripts must be submitted with the application to qualify (5 points).
Experience: Persons who have been awarded a certificate of successful completion of the Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Training Course (Certified Illinois Police Officer) and are currently employed as a law enforcement officer part-time or full-time within the State of Illinois. A copy of the state-issued certification must be submitted with the application to qualify (5 points).
Military: Persons who were engaged in the military or naval service of the United States for at least one year and were honorably discharged, - OR - who are now, or may hereafter be, on inactive or reserve duty in such military or naval service. A copy of Form DD-214 or equivalent proof of current military service must be submitted with the application to qualify (5 points).
Community Service Officer: Persons currently employed as a community service officer for the Village of Carpentersville have been in that position continuously for at least one year (3 points).

Salary and Specialty Assignments

Salary: $75,1319 starting - $109,491 (after seven years) – with education incentive; $79,116 - $115,011 (after seven years) – without education incentive.
Holiday Pay (annual): $2166 - $3176 with education incentive; $2066 - $3024 without education incentive
Sick Incentive (annual): $600
Longevity: $50/year of service capped at 20 years

Specialty Assignments (achievable after two years of service): Detective, Special Operations Group, FBI Task Force, Homeland Security Task Force, Warrant Service Team, K9 Handler, SWAT, Firearms Instructor, Mobile Field Force, Drone Operator, Major Accident / Crimes Investigation Task Force, Field Training Officer, Honor Guard, School Resource Officer, and Evidence Technician.
