Department Overview:
Utilizing four fire stations, DTFR serves more than 40,000 residents spanning 16 square miles. The department is operated under the direction of the Fire Chief along with his command staff comprised of four Deputy Fire Chiefs who direct the daily operations of each shift. Each fire station is managed by a Captain and two Lieutenants, with a maximum staffing level of 20 per day. The organization responds to around 5,000 emergencies per year.

Hiring Process:

Step Two: Applicants not currently DTFR part-time employees must submit a valid Firefighter Mile or CPAT test.
Step Three: EMS Patient Care Simulator Evaluation. This is completed with the Deputy Chief of EMS and the EMS Officer.
Step Four: Panel Interview. This interview is conducted with six to seven members of the organization of varying ranks.
Step Five: Command Staff Interview. This interview is conducted with the four Deputy Chiefs and Fire Chief. **Job offers will be issued after the interviews are completed**
Conditional Job Offer Issued - Pending Township Board of Trustee Approval and successful completion of Steps Six & Seven.
Step Six: Psychological Evaluation
Step Seven: Post Job Offer Police & Fire Medical Examination (unless currently enrolled in the OP&F pension).
