Notice to all Fire Civil Service Applicants:
Please note that the application and testing process for City of Wilkes-Barre Firefighter has changed.
All interested Candidates must:
The candidates with the top 25 exam scores will be invited to take a Physical Agility test, to be scheduled at a later date.
The complete examination process (written and physical agility) will result in a Certified Hiring list that will remain in effect for at least two years.
Job Requirements
Must be 18 years of age
US Citizenship Required
Valid Driver’s License from any US State
No College Degree/Academy certification required
Ability to read and speak English
No prior experience required
Necessary Certifications: Upon being hired as a recruit firefighter, successful attendance, completion and graduation from the Fire Academy is required. This will include: NIMS 100, NIMS 200, Haz Mat Awareness, Haz Mat Ops, Firefighter I, Firefighter II, CPR and National Registry EMT.
Additional: Though not a requirement at time of application, upon employment with the City of Wilkes-Barre Fire Department, all recruits must be able to offer proof of residency within one year after completion of their probationary period. This is a contractual agreement between the City and IAFF Local 104.
US VETERAN’S PREFERENCE:Ten additional points will be added to the scores of eligible Veterans who pass the written exam and have completed at least one full term of service. You must be Honorable discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces. Add a copy of your DD214 to your application to have eligibility reviewed. Applicants who claim Veteran’s Preference must supply proof of service and honorable discharge at time of application.
Additional Preference points:Additional points will be added for: 1) Pennsylvania EMT and/or NREMT License. 2) An Associate’s Degree in Fire Science. 3) PA Firefighter I Certification. Please include any documentation at time of application.
Work Schedule is presently rotating three 9 hour days, 3 days off, three 15 hour nights, 3 days off.
