Classification: Firefighter/EMT (Lateral) -- CONTINUOUS LIST

The City of Oak Harbor Fire Department is currently hiring as well as establishing an ongoing eligibility list to fill Firefighter/EMT positions.

Qualifications:

Currently employed as a career firefighter with a minimum of 2 years of service in a similar or larger size organization.
IFSAC Firefighter I certification
EMT certification (Washington State or National Registry acceptable to the State of Washington)
A score of 70% or above in the NTN combined score
Passed the Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT)
Completed Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ)

Salary Information: $6,858- $8,568 monthly (FY 2025) – qualified laterals to start at step 3 $7,499/month.

Employee Only Healthcare – The employee pays Zero (0) on medical, dental, family vision, life, and long-term disability insurance monthly premium costs.
Eligible Dependents Only Healthcare – The employee pays
- 10% only of the total monthly premium costs for Medical and Dental (salary deduction of 5% on the 15th and end of the month applies) for as long as the benefit is active, and

Department Information: The Oak Harbor Fire Department (OHFD) is a professional municipal fire department that offers a wide range of services, including fire suppression, emergency medical response, technical rescue, hazardous materials management, fire code enforcement, fire investigations, and public safety education. OHFD operates from one station staffed 24/7, with a second 24/7 station currently under construction and expected to be completed by late 2025. The department follows a 3-platoon, 48/96 work schedule and is staffed by a Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, Training Captain, three Shift Captains, three Lieutenants, 13 Firefighter/EMTs, and an Administrative Assistant.
