Clark County Fire District 6
Entry-Level Hire Opportunities

Clark County Fire District 6 is establishing 18-month eligibility lists with the intent to hire at least four (4) personnel to begin employment March 1, 2027. We are hiring for both Entry-Level and Lateral FF/PM positions. Qualified candidates who are licensed Paramedics are encouraged to apply.

Salary & Benefits:

Salary Range (2026):
$104,064 - $142,128 per year for Firefighter/Paramedic
Schedule:
4-Platoon Shift Schedule: 24hr on/48hr off, followed by 24hr on/96hr off (11 debit days annually)
Comprehensive Benefits Package:

Health Insurance: 100% for employee, 90% for dependents
Dental: 100% for employee and dependents
Deferred Compensation: $250 per month employee contribution and 5.5% of top step firefighter wage per month employer contribution
Tuition Reimbursement
Education Incentives: AA Degree - 2.0% of Step IV Firefighter Wage, BA/BS Degree - 3.0% of Step IV Firefighter Wage
Vacation Accrual: 12-25.5 hrs/month (based on years of service)
Sick Leave Accrual: 16 hrs per month. Up to 75% credit to MERP or VEBA upon retirement
120 hours sick leave loan-against-accrual at start of employment
HRA VEBA: $100 per month
MERP: $100 per month
LEOFF II Retirement System
126 hours of Holiday Leave per year
Longevity pay based on years of service (4% at 10 years, 8.5% at 25 years)

Application Process:

Written Exam:
Applicants must complete the Written Exam with a minimum passing score of 70% through the National Testing Network (NTN) by September 30, 2026 at 5:00 PM. Your scores will be sent directly to Clark County Fire District 6 after completing the exam.
Candidates can take the exam multiple times, please check the NTN calendar for available testing dates. Note: we only consider the most recent score.
Lateral Firefighter/Paramedic Applicants:
If applying as a lateral, please ensure you apply through the Lateral Firefighter/Paramedic posting on the National Testing Network website.
Physical Abilities Test (CPAT):
Applicants must submit valid CPAT credentials dated between October 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026. CPAT documentation must be received by September 30, 2026.
CPAT orientation and practice tests are available and encouraged before the deadline. Please upload CPAT results to your NTN profile or email them to fd6candidates@ccfd6.org.
EMS Certification:
Proof of valid, current EMT-P certification (National Registry or Washington State EMT-P) is required for all applicants. Upload your certification to NTN or email it to fd6candidates@ccfd6.org by September 30, 2026.
Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ):
A completed PHQ must be uploaded to your NTN account by September 30, 2026, 5:00 PM. The PHQ serves as your formal application to Clark County Fire District 6.

Clark County is located in the beautiful southwestern part of the State of Washington, across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon. Clark County offers excellent livability and a relatively low cost of living. The area is experiencing a positive cycle of new construction growth and development. The State of Washington has no state income tax.

Department Overview:
Formed in 1954, Clark County Fire District 6 protects and serves a population of over 70,000 residents in a 37 square mile area. The District is adjacent to the city of Vancouver, WA. It is primarily urban and suburban and runs over 9,400 calls per year out of 4 fire stations. The District is governed by three elected Commissioners and provides fire suppression, rescue and non-transport ALS paramedic service. Current staffing is 82 FTE emergency response personnel and approximately 10 administrative personnel. The District is hiring 4 new members to replace current and expected vacancies.

Eligibility Requirements:

Minimum Age: 21 years by the date of hire
Citizenship: Legally eligible to work in the U.S.
Education: High School Diploma or GED (verification required)
Driver's License: Valid, state-issued driver’s license required
Felony Convictions: Adult felony convictions are disqualifying
Vision Requirements: Must pass medical exam
Veterans Preference: Available (DD214 required)
