Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must meet one of the following options:

Option 1:

High School Diploma or GED
Twelve (12) semester hours of credit in any field of study from an accredited college or university
Six (6) months of general work experience involving public contact
Must be 21 years of age by date of graduation from the Academy

Option 2:

High School Diploma or GED
Associate’s degree or sixty (60) semester hours of credit in any field of study from an accredited college or university
Six (6) months of general work experience involving public contact
Must be 21 years of age by date of graduation from the Academy

Option 3:

High School Diploma or GED
At least two (2) years of full-time active military service with an honorable discharge
Must be 21 years of age by date of graduation from the Academy

Additional Requirements:

U.S. Citizen
Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or equivalent by time of application
Pass background investigation, physical exam, psychological evaluation, and drug screening
Applicants with prior military service must not have a dishonorable discharge or any discharge based on misconduct that bars future military service

Licenses and Certificates

- Basic Peace Officer License issued by TCOLE upon successful completion of the Academy

Written Exam: Must be completed by February 26, 2026

A link will be sent upon completion of the preliminary application
Fee: $65
Personal History Statement (PHS) will be issued upon passing the written exam

Physical Agility Test (Job Simulation): Will be sent out to candidates via email
Oral Board Exam: Will be sent out to candidates via email

PHS must be submitted prior to the agility test

Applicants who successfully pass all steps will be placed on the eligibility list and may proceed in the hiring process

Conditions of Employment

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the Police Academy and obtaining a TCOLE Basic Peace Officer License
Failure to complete the Academy or licensing process will result in termination
