Spokane County Fire District 9 is located in suburban north Spokane County and provides full-service fire protection, prevention, and emergency medical services to 52,000 residents over an area of 122 square miles. The District is a combination career/volunteer department with a total of 82 full time employees and 36 volunteer personnel operating from nine fire stations. The 2026 Recruit Academy Begins March 2, 2026 and is required for all laterals to successfully complete.

SALARY: Firefighter/Paramedic Range: $91,807 to $125,098 annually. The District will independently evaluate each Lateral entry hire’s training, experience, and qualifications, to determine the lateral entry employees’ placement within the monthly wage schedule and corresponding vacation and leave time accruals rates.
BENEFITS: Per current collective bargaining agreement which includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; longevity premium, MERP, VEBA, deferred compensation, vacation, sick leave, and Washington LEOFF Plan 2 Defined Benefit Pension
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Candidate must have one (1) year or more of continuous full-time employment in good standing with their current employer as a Firefighter/Paramedic by November 1, 2025 and successfully completed probation with their current full-time employer.
2. Candidate must provide documentation as required by the Federal Government that proves their legal right to work in the United States (Form I-9 will be required at time of hire).
3. Current WA State Paramedic certification. National Registry Paramedic certification is accepted, but the applicant must complete the transfer of their certification to the State of Washington before completion of recruit school.
4. Valid driver’s license, with the privilege to drive in the State of Washington, by date of hire.
5. Insurability with the District’s insurance carrier.
6. High school diploma or GED certificate.
7. Minimum age of 18 years.
8. Meet or exceed the District’s physical and medical standards.
9. Proficient use of the English language (speaking, reading, and writing).

SELECTION PROCESS TIMELINE:
1. Oral board interview (December 2025).
2. Chief’s interview (December 2025).
3. Selection using the Rule of Three.
4. Pass a pre-employment screening which includes driving record, criminal history, and employment history checks.
5. Complete and pass a comprehensive medical and psychological exam.
6. Recruit Academy Begins March 2, 2026 and is required for all laterals to successfully complete.
