Department Overview

The Pingree Grove & Countryside Fire Protection District is a growing combination department proudly serving the Village of Pingree Grove, portions of the Village of Campton Hills, portions of the Village of Hampshire, and unincorporated areas of Elgin. We operate three stations equipped with three ALS Engines, four ALS Ambulances, two tenders, and one brush truck, all staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We respond to approximately 2,500 incidents annually, providing excellent emergency medical services, fire suppression, and community risk reduction. Our department values professionalism, integrity, and compassion in serving a diverse and rapidly growing community.

Job Requirements

Age: Minimum 20 years of age and not older than 35 years of age by the application deadline date of October 6, 2025. The maximum age restriction will not apply to an individual who meets one of the exceptions to the statutory maximum hiring age details in section 16.06b(c) (1-3) of the Fire Protection District Act (70 ILCS 705/16.06(c) (1-3)

Preference Points

Experience Preference Points: Any candidate who has been a part-time firefighter with the Pingree Grove and Countryside Fire Protection District will be awarded one half point for each full year of service, up to a maximum of five (5) points. Candidates from outside the Pingree Grove and Countryside Fire Protection District who are employed as full-time firefighters for at least two (2) years shall have the same preference as Pingree Grove and Countryside Fire Protection District part-time firefighters. They shall be awarded one half point for each full year of service up to a maximum of (5) points. Proof of such service may include submission of a letter from the department documenting service and must include an affidavit from the applicant. Please note that the district may require verification of proof of paid-on-call or full-time service. Also note that an applicant may not receive experience preference points for a certificate if the number of points awarded for that certificate would place the applicant before a veteran of the district on the eligibility list.

Military Preference Points : Candidates who served in the United States Military for at least one year and who were honorably discharged or who are now on inactive or reserve duty shall receive five (5) points. Proof of such service must include evidence of the honorable discharge and/or participation in active duty and an affidavit by the candidate.

Paramedic License: 5 points for having a valid Illinois paramedic license
