Classification: Fulltime Firefighter-EMT Basic/Paramedic
The City of Worthington will accept test scores for both entry level and lateral Firefighter-EMT Basic/Paramedic candidates through September 30, 2025. A pass/fail physical assessment exercise will be required of all candidates invited to participate in initial interviews for fulltime positions. The physical assessment will take place on October 23 and October 24. Candidates will only need to attend one date of their choosing. Interviews for those passing the physical assessment will be held the week of November 4th.
All Candidates are required to complete the NTN Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ). Candidates are asked to complete the PSSA (Public Safety Self-Assessment) on a voluntary basis.
Individuals with an EMT-Basic are eligible for hire but must be enrolled in a Paramedic Certification program within 6 months of their hire date and must complete Certification within 36 months.
The individuals achieving the highest passing scores from the entrance examination will be contacted by the City of Worthington to move forward in the selection process. These individuals will then be required to complete and submit a City of Worthington Application for Employment.

Fulltime Firefighter-EMT Basic/Paramedic Pay Range in 2025:
Salary Information: Fulltime Firefighters/Paramedics have a 4 step salary range. Step A: $75,353.63 Step B: $86,711.15 Step C: $92,957.86 Step D: $99,512.65. Fulltime Firefighters/EMT-B salary: $70,769.62. All City of Worthington employees are in a Probationary Status for their first year of employment.
Fulltime Firefighter/Paramedic candidates with paramedic certification and three or more years of fulltime firefighter/paramedic experience will generally be placed in Step C or D of the pay range.
Fulltime Benefit Information: Excellent benefits package includes medical, prescription, vision, dental and life insurance. Holiday leave bank of 216 hours. Initial vacation leave accrual of 10 hours per month up to 24 hours per month based on years of full-time public service in the State of Ohio. Credit for vacation accrual will be given for prior full-time public service in the State of Ohio.
Department Overview: The Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division provides emergency response for Worthington, Sharon Township, Perry Township and the Village of Riverlea. Services include fire suppression, rescue, EMS and prevention/inspections. The division is staffed with 37 full-time and 16 part-time firefighters.

High School Grad/GED : Yes
Valid OHIO State Driver's License : Yes. Valid Ohio Driver's License or ability to obtain an Ohio Driver's License prior to hire date.
Ability to Read/Speak English : Yes
Vision : Must have corrected vision in both eyes to 20/20.
Prior Experience : Preferred but not required
Certifications : Firefighter I and II certification required. Paramedic certification preferred. EMT-B eligible for hire, but must be enrolled in a Paramedic Certification program within 6 months of hire date, with certification completed within 36 months of hire.
A polygraph examination will be administered to each of the final candidates. The polygraph examination will be administered by a trained, certified polygraph examiner. Subject areas to be explored by the polygraph examination include employment history, general background, personal conduct, illegal drug use, alcohol use, and criminal activity related to theft, sexual conduct, gambling, arrest record, or other criminal concerns. While the results of the polygraph examination will not be used as a single determinant of employment status, deception noted during this segment of the process that is corroborated by other means may eliminate the candidate from further consideration.
