Entry-Level Firefighter – Application Requirements & Process
To be considered for an entry-level firefighter position with our agency, applicants must complete the following steps:
Entry-Level Firefighter Application Checklist
Step 1: Complete Required NTN Testing
☐ Take the FireTEAM Written Exam through National Testing Network (NTN)☐ Complete the Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) through NTN☐ PSSA required☐ Find our job posting at:https://www.nationaltestingnetwork.com/publicsafetyjobs/index.cfm☐ Submit your current NTN scores to our agency (if already completed) via NTN
Failure to complete the FireTEAM exam or PHQ will result in disqualification.
Step 2: Meet the Physical Ability Requirement
You must complete one of the following:
☐ Provide a valid CPAT certificate
Dated within 12 months of the application closing date
Closing date: March 15, 2026
OR
☐ Indicate intent to complete the 1.5-mile run
Must be completed in 15 minutes
Proctored by Redmond Fire personnel
Failure to provide a current CPAT or indicate intent to complete the 1.5-mile run will result in disqualification.
Proof of CPAT or run intent will be collected later, after passing the FireTEAM exam.
Step 3: Complete City of Redmond Application (By Invitation)
☐ Receive invitation after submitting passing FireTEAM scores and PHQ☐ Complete the City of Redmond employment application☐ Attach:
Valid CPAT certificate or
Indication of intent to complete the 1.5-mile run
Step 4: Interview Process (If Qualified)
☐ First-Round Interview (Teams) – Tentatively in April☐ Second-Round Interview (In Person) – Tentatively in May
Job Description
FLSA: Non-ExemptGeneral Function: Responds to emergency calls as a member of the Fire Department's engine, aerial ladder, rescue truck, advanced life support (ALS) or basic life support teams to extinguish fires and perform medical aid and rescues. Assists the public with non-emergency requests or complaints. Conducts fire prevention inspections, fire hydrant testing, pre-fire planning, fire prevention education, and minor repairs and maintenance on facilities, apparatus and equipment. Significant participation in training activities necessary to maintain skills, knowledge and abilities.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in the fire station and surrounding area with emergency alarms to incident sites occurring at a varied rate. Varying work schedules are required; may be recalled for emergency duty as needed. Performance of hazardous tasks under emergency conditions may require strenuous exertion under such handicaps as limited visibility, exposure to hazardous or toxic chemicals and gases, extremes in temperature, cramped surroundings, and contact with death, emotional stress, contagious disease and terminal illnesses.Physical Activities: Heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. Subject to extreme heat, noise, physical hazard from traffic, fire and falling objects, atmospheric conditions such as smoke, fumes, odors, gases. May be required to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs, respirator, rubber or plastic gloves, rubber boots.
