Job Classification: Entry Level Firefighter

The Colorado Springs Fire Department is currently developing an entry-level hiring list for an anticipated fire academy in July 2026 for the position of Firefighter Trainee.

Candidates must complete, by March 19, 2026, 11:59p.m., via the National Testing Network:

· FireTEAM test

· Upload current Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) certification

· Upload current National Registry EMT-Basic or Paramedic or State of Colorado EMT-Basic or Paramedic certification

· CPR/BLS Certification

· If you are a Paramedic, you will need to also upload your ACLS certification

CSFD currently applies the following weights to the FireTEAM sections:

60% Human Relations
40% PSSA 1
Mechanical – Pass/Fail (70% or higher)
Math – Pass/Fail (70% or higher)
Reading – Pass/Fail (70% or higher)

It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure their NTN score is valid when the posting closes on March 19, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.

Firefighter Candidate Minimum Qualifications: The following minimum qualifications must be met to participate in the firefighter selection process.

Be at least 18 years of age by date of hire
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
Have or be able to obtain a valid Colorado driver’s license without restrictions
Be able to pass the pre-employment background investigation, medical examination & drug screen, polygraph, and psychological testing
Valid FireTEAM test score through the National Testing Network no more than 12 months prior to the testing process deadline
Valid Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) no more the 12 months prior to the testing process deadline
Have and maintain a current National Registry EMT-Basic or State of Colorado EMT-Basic certification through date of hire and due by March 19, 2026, by 11:59 p.m.
Must maintain a valid CPR certificate from either AHA Basic Life support for the healthcare Provider or Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer through date of hire and due by March 19, 2026, by 11:59 p.m.
If you are a Paramedic, you must maintain a valid ACLS Provider certificate through date of hire and due by March 19, 2026.
You must not have been convicted of a crime that would affect your ability to certify with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). NREMT's Criminal Policy
The City does not sponsor applicants for work visas. If hired, you will be required to provide proof or your eligibility to work in the United States.
We do not permit the use of medicinal or recreational marijuana.

*Only a CPAT licensed by the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) and the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) will be accepted.

Department Overview: The Colorado Springs Fire Department, an internationally accredited department, has 24 fire stations and over 500 full time uniformed firefighters. The department has 25 engine companies, 6 truck companies, a heavy rescue team, and a hazardous materials response team. Fire stations are staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The department responded to over 80,000 calls in 2025 and approximately 80% of those are medical emergencies.
