The 2026 salary range for entry-level police officer is $93,156 - $128,545 with the starting salary increasing to $95,718 in 2027. The Village offers an excellent benefits package that includes participation in the Police Pension Fund, medical, dental and vision coverage, life insurance, and voluntary participation in a deferred compensation program (457 plan). The Wilmette Police Department (WPD), is located 14 miles north of Chicago along Lake Michigan, is a CALEA accredidated, full service agency serving over 28,000 residents. The department is staffed by 48 sworn officers serving across patrol, investigations, school resource officer, co-responder program, and a neighborhood engagment team (NET).Officers also have the opportuinites to participate in speciliazed assignments such as drone operation, digital forensics, field training officer, and juvenile investigations. We also are members of multi-agency task forces like North Regional Major Crimes Task Force (NORTAF), Northern Illionois Police Alarm System (NIPAS), and Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT). The department places a strong emphasis on professional development, sending officers to multiple speaclialzed trainings throughout their career.
