The Wilmette Police Department is collaborating with National Testing Network (NTN). NTN provides applicants with flexible testing options, allowing candidates to complete the examination remotely or attend an in-person testing location at a time that works best for their schedule. Individuals interested in joining the Wilmette Police Department must create an NTN account to complete the required testing, and upload all required documentation to the portal to be considered for a position at the Wilmette Police Department.

Compensation and Benefits:

The 2026 salary range for entry-level police officer is $93,156 - $128,545 with the starting salary increasing to $95,718 in 2027. The Village offers an excellent benefits package that includes participation in the Police Pension Fund, medical, dental and vision coverage, life insurance, and voluntary participation in a deferred compensation program (457 plan). Additional benefits include vacation days, holiday time, overtime, tuition reimbursement, flexible spending accounts, sick leave, speciality stipends, and an employee assistance program.

Department Overview:

The Wilmette Police Department (WPD), is located 14 miles north of Chicago along Lake Michigan, is a CALEA accredidated, full service agency serving over 28,000 residents. The department is staffed by 48 sworn officers serving across patrol, investigations, school resource officer, co-responder program, and a neighborhood engagment team (NET).Officers also have the opportuinites to participate in speciliazed assignments such as drone operation, digital forensics, field training officer, and juvenile investigations. We also are members of multi-agency task forces like North Regional Major Crimes Task Force (NORTAF), Northern Illionois Police Alarm System (NIPAS), and Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT). The department places a strong emphasis on professional development, sending officers to multiple speaclialzed trainings throughout their career.

Entry Level Requirements

Citizen of the U.S. or legally authorized to work in the United States
At least 21 and under 35 years of age
High School Diploma
At the time of filing the application, each entry-level candidate shall have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from an accredited college or university, or a candidate may be placed on the eligible register and ultimately hired by the Village, prior to receipt of a bachelor’s degree, when an internship for credits can be completed at the police academy and such internship is the only remaining credits needed to achieve and obtain a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Valid driver’s license
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position of a police officer.
Possess a valid POWER Card by September 28, 2026.
