Classification: Non-Affiliate Recruit for Southern Desert Regional Police Academy

The academy is currently building an ongoing eligbility list.

All applicants for the academy must pass the PAT Exam, physical agility test, physical and psychological examinations, drug screen and background check. Candidates must have CCW (Concealed Carry Permit) and be able to pass a voice stress analyzer exam.

Number of Openings: 10 openings per academy.

Department Information: The Southern Desert Regional Police Academy is a partnership with the Henderson Police Department, North Las Vegas Police Department, City of Las Vegas Detention and Enforcement and the College of Southern Nevada. This academy is 21 weeks, full-time academy that meets 40 hours per week. The schedule is typically 4, 10 hour days with a few times that it varies to 5, 8 hour days. This academy far exceeds the minimum requirements of the Nevada Police Officer Standards (POST) for training. Recruits receive 27 college credits towards an Associate's Degree upon graduation from this academy. After graduation, non-affiliated recruits are eligible to take the Nevada POST category 1 & 3 exams. A non-affiliate has two (2) years from the date of graduation to be hired, before their certification expires.
The academy environment is stressful and physically demanding. Therefore all recruits should prepare themselves for this type of training.
