The City of Oregon is building an eligibility list for the position of Police Officer in 2025. To be considered on this eligibility list all testing must be completed by September 19th, 2025.
The City of Oregon does not require a PAT (Physical Abilities Test) through NTN. PAT testing will be conducted by the City of Oregon. Candidates must meet department standards for physical fitness, strength, flexibility, and endurance. The City of Oregon Police Division requires the candidate PHQ. You can access the questionnaire through your candidate account. NTN suggests completing the PHQ as soon as possible so there is not a delay in your process.
Salary Information: Salary is based upon negotiations with the Oregon Police Patrolmen’s Association. Ranges as of 7/1/2025 are as follows.
Step 1 – Step 6 ($37.27 - $44.10/per hour)(The regular hourly wage rate for officers shall be reduced by $1.50 per hour while the officer is in Field Training.)

Department Overview: The Oregon Police Division is a progressive, motivated, well-equipped police department active in its community. Our officers are trained in and provided with the most up-to-date technology available in order to keep them safe and help them to succeed.
City Information: The City of Oregon is 28 sq. miles located on Maumee Bay with several miles of Lake Erie shoreline. It is home to Maumee Bay State Park as well as Pearson Metro Park. The city has an excellent school system as well as recreational programs for both children and adults. Oregon is home to, or only minutes away from, any dining or shopping need.
Lateral Transfer Candidates: The Chief of Police shall have sole discretion, on a case-by-case basis, to determine previous service year credits for new members who are hired as a ‘lateral transfer,’ with previous full-time service as a police officer in the State of Ohio prior to becoming a member of the Oregon Police Division. Previous service years credit, if given, will only affect the pay step and vacation accrual rate and will have no bearing on departmental seniority. All new members will have their departmental seniority begin on their date of hire with the Oregon Police Division.
Lateral Transfer Candidates will not be required to take the written test through the NTN or the physical fitness test and will automatically be placed on the Police Officer Eligibility list and be offered an interview when a position becomes available. State certificate must be presented at time of application.
Job Requirements:Age: Must be 21 years of age and less than 41 years of age at appointment (Per Ord #126-2024).US Citizen: YesValid Driver’s License: YesAbility to Read/Speak English: YesHigh School Grad/GED: YesDrug Free Workplace: YesPosition Requirements:Must have completed two years of course work in any discipline from an accredited college or university defined as completion of at least 60 semester credit hours or at least 90 quarter hours with a GPA no lower than 2.0 (current job description language).OR:Must have a high school diploma and must have served in the armed forces on active duty for a period of more than 180 consecutive days; and if separated from the armed forces, must have received an honorable discharge or release or was separated under honorable conditions.OR:Must have a high school diploma and must possess an active certification as a peace officer, police officer, or state highway patrol officer/trooper from any state within the United States. These candidates will not be required to take the written test through the NTN (National Testing Network) or the physical fitness test and will automatically be placed on the Police Officer Eligibility list and be offered an interview when a position becomes available. State certificate must be presented at time of application.
Motor Vehicle Driving Record: If you have any convictions of the following within a three-year period of application, you are not insurable under the city’s risk management program, and thus not eligible for a police officer position:- Three moving violations- Two at-fault accidents- Combination of two or more moving violations and one at-fault accident- OVI for drugs or alcohol- Refusal to submit to blood alcohol or breathalyzer test- Reckless operation- Driving while under suspension- Felony violation involving a motor vehicle- Leaving scene of accident- Fleeing or eluding a police officer- Expired license- Physical Control
Performance Responsibilities: Under general supervision, must perform various duties to protect and serve the general public; enforce and uphold the laws set forth by the Constitution of the United States, the State of Ohio, and the Charter of the City of Oregon; perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Physical Fitness Standards, Vision Standards and DOT Hearing Standards: Candidate must pass these minimum standards as detailed in the Police Officer Applicant Packet on the city’s website.
Psychological Fitness Evaluation: Candidate must pass a psychological fitness evaluation given by a professional chosen by the Civil Service Commission showing that the applicant meets psychological requirements necessary to perform the duties of a police officer.
Physical Examination: Candidate must pass physical examination showing applicant is free from cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases and able to meet the physical requirements to perform duties of a police officer.
Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers: No person shall be eligible for appointment who has been convicted of felony, theft, or any other crime that may, in the view of the Civil Service Commission, compromise public trust. All applicants must pass a background check to make this determination.
Academy Certification: Not required at time of appointment. However, candidate must successfully complete the Ohio Peace Officers Certification Program within one year from date of appointment. In addition, any individual who is certified as a peace officer in the State of Ohio at the time of taking a Police Officer examination and who receives a passing score (70% or better) on the Police Officer examination shall have three (3) numerical points added to his/her passing score.
Veterans’ Preference:a) A veteran who receives a passing grade on this competitive entry level examination shall have five (5) numerical points added to his/her passing score. Veteran is defined as a person who served in the Armed Forces on active duty for a period of more than 180 consecutive days and who received an honorable discharge or release or was separated under honorable conditions.b) A disabled veteran who satisfies any physical requirements for the position and receives a passing grade on this competitive entry level examination, shall have an additional five (5) numerical points added to his/her passing score. Disabled veteran means a person who has served on active duty in the Armed Forces, has been separated under honorable conditions, and has established the present existence of a service-connected disability rated ten percent (10%) or more.
