Job Classification: Entry Level Police OfficerThe City of Montclair is currently recruiting for Entry Level Police Officers. The posting will remain open and positions filled as needed. The City will invite candidates selected to move forward in the process to fill out the City application. Please do not contact the City regarding the application process. POLICE OFFICER (ENTRY-LEVEL)
**$10,000 HIRING BONUS**
Military Veterans and College Grads may be entitled to up to $8,500 in additional hiring incentive
BASE SALARY RANGE:
$85,824 – 104,328 Annually
SPECIAL PAYS
The City of Montclair provides special pay incentives for eligible officers in addition to their base pay:
· BASE SALARY INCREASE: 4% of base pay effective July 1, 2023
4% of base pay effective July 1, 2024
· SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT PAY:
§ Detective/ Narcotics: 4% of base pay
§ Field Training Officer: 2.5% of base pay
§ Motorcycle: 2% of base pay
§ Special Enforcement: 2% of base pay
· SPECIAL PAYS:
§ POST Certificate Pay: Intermediate, $100 monthly
Advanced, $175 monthly
§ Longevity Pay: 2.5% of base pay every five-years
§ Education Incentive: $1,300 per fiscal year
§ Bilingual pay: $75, monthly
§ Uniform allowance: $45, monthly
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Under general supervision prevents crimes, enforces laws, investigates complaints, and apprehends criminals and suspects; protects the innocent, helps the distressed, safeguards public rights, and aids in the administration of justice; and assumes responsibilities and performs duties related to the work, as required. Police Officers work a Monday – Thursday 10-hour schedule or Friday – Sunday 12.5-hour schedule.

SELECTION PROCESS
Candidates must pass one of the below-written examinations:
1. Enrolled in or Academy Graduate: Must be currently enrolled in, or hold a certificate of completion from a POST-certified Basic Academy, or currently employed as a Police Officer with a California law enforcement agency and possess a California POST Basic Certificate. APPLICATION: Candidates will be required to submit a City of Montclair application upon successful completion of the physical agility examination. City applications can be found at www.cityofmontclair.org. A copy of your POST or Academy Certificate must be attached to your application. Applications with required certificates must be submitted to City Hall Personnel Division via email, jobs@cityofmontclair.org or by mail to City Hall, 5111 Benito Street, Montclair CA 91763.
2. California POST PELLETB: The City of Montclair will accept PELLETB with a T-Score total of 48 or higher. Verification must be on agency letterhead, listing where the test was administered, the test date, and results within the last 12 months of the date your application is received by the City of Montclair. Proof of the PELLETB score must be attached to a City of Montclair employment application.
3. The Montclair Police Department offers full testing services for the position of Entry-Level Police Officer through National Testing Network, Inc (NTN). To fill out an application for this position and schedule testing, go to www.nationaltestingnetwork.com, select Law Enforcement, and sign up for the Montclair Police Department. Upon completion of the entry-level exams administered by NTN, all candidate scores are automatically made available to the Montclair Police Department. Selected candidates will be requested to submit a City Application when invited to the next phase of the selection process.
4. POST PHYSICAL AGILITY: Candidates will be required to pass the standardized POST physical agility examination.
5. APPLICATION: NTN Candidates will be required to submit a City of Montclair application upon successful completion of the physical agility examination. City applications can be found at www.cityofmontclair.org.
6. ORAL INTERVIEW: Successful candidates will be required to participate in a standard in-person panel interview. Upon successful completion, candidates will be placed on an eligibility list for Police Officers.
