Job Classification: Firefighter/EMT or Paramedic - Reserve

The Mohave Valley Fire Department is currently hiring for Firefighter/EMT or Paramedic - Reserve. This position requires an Application, FireTEAM and a valid NTN CPAT. This position will remain OPEN UNTIL FILLED.

Mohave Valley Fire Department does not support mandatory vaccinations.

Candidates who are current Mohave Valley Fire Department Reserve Firefighters do not need a current CPAT for this position.

The department requires the candidate PHQ. You can access the questionnaire through your candidate account. The PHQ must be completed by the closing date or you may not be considered further in the process.

Salary Information: $15.28-$17.28 per hour

Area Information: We are a small Rural / Farming Community along the Colorado River on the borders of Arizona, California, and Nevada. We are close to both Lake Havasu and Lake Mohave. Bullhead City, AZ and Laughlin, NV are both local communities. Las Vegas is 90 miles from the area.

Arizona Firefighter 1 & 2 (or equivalent)
Valid Arizona State/National Registry Paramedic Certification
NWCG Firefighter Type 2 (or obtain within one year)

Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors:

Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers

No Felony Convictions in last 10 years
No DUI Convictions last 5 years
No drug use arrest or conviction of illegal substances prior 5 years

Driving Disqualifiers

Poor driving record based on Class A and Class B violations
Suspension or revocation of driver’s license in last 5 years

Additional Information:
Applicants must have valid Arizona EMT or Paramedic Certification. Current reserves and Veterans will receive preference points.

Application Process:
Applications can be picked up or mailed at the Mohave Valley Fire District, 1451 Willow Drive, Mohave Valley, AZ 86440. Applications will be available at www.mohavevalleyfire.org

Upon completion of the entry level exam and CPAT testing, all candidate scores are automatically forwarded to the Mohave Valley Fire Department. Candidates who attain a passing score on both the entry level exam and the physical abilities test will be placed on the department's eligibility list. Mohave Valley Fire Department will contact candidates on the list and will invite them to continue to participate in other stages of the department selection process.

Selection Process:
Those applicants who successfully pass the examination process shall be placed on an eligibility list. The top candidates chosen will be called for an internal oral board examination.

Submit application by established deadline.
CPAT certification within previous 12 months. (Waived for current MVFD employees)
Passing score of entry level written exam. (100 point maximum)
Oral Interview (100 points maximum)
Current MVFD in good standing and completed packets (20 points)
Current Arizona Paramedic certification or National Registry Paramedic
Pass a Fitness for Duty Physical and Drug Screening
Veterans preference points

The Fire Chief may use the Rule of Three in selecting the final candidate for the position from the eligibility list. Thus, the Fire Chief may use his/her discretion in identifying the best candidate from any of the top three candidates on the Eligibility List.
