Classification: Patrol Deputy

The Pickaway County Sheriff's Office is currently accepting results for Patrol Deputy. The department is currenlty hiring for Patrol Deputy positions and building a list for future positions as well.

The department requires the candidate's PHQ. You can access the questionnaire through your candidate account. The PHQ must be completed by the closing date or you may not be considered further in the process.

Salary Information: Starting pay between $26.94 - $32.73 (depending on experience - Lateral hire).

Benefit Information: Paid holidays, personal days, sick leave accrual, vacation accrual, comp time, overtime eligible, longevity, uniforms, Health and Rx insurance, vision and dental, deferred compensation. Road Patrol works 4-10 hour days with three days off a week.

Department Information: The Pickaway County Sheriff's Office is currently comprised of 95 total personnel assigned to the Jail, Patrol, Communications, Detective and Administration Divisions of the office. There are 22 Road Patrol Deputy positions within the Patrol Division along with 6 School Resource Officers.

General Statement of Duties:
Under direction: Drives patrol car to police assigned county areas and to aid in preventing crime, enforce laws, and respond to calls (e.g., domestic disputes, accidents, burglaries, thefts, etc.); observes area to detect suspicious activity; assists citizens, checks businesses and homes, responds to alarms, answers complaints, makes arrests, transports prisoners, administers first aid, etc.; operates police radio and communication equipment to transmit or receive information concerning suspects, motor vehicles, victims, incidents, arrests, complaints, etc.; conducts investigations (e.g., interviews witnesses, collects evidence, searches crime scene, etc.); prepares and maintains a variety of reports and records (e.g., arrests, property damages and impoundments, use of force, daily activities, etc.); appears in court and testifies as necessary; operates and maintains firearms and other law enforcement equipment.

Enforces traffic laws (e.g., issues traffic citations, operates radar, makes arrests, etc.); responds to and investigates traffic accidents (e.g., assists victims, cites drivers at fault, collects evidence, interviews involved parties and witnesses, etc.); checks on suspicious vehicles; calls tow to impound vehicles; provides traffic control as necessary (e.g., special events, adverse weather, signal outages, etc.); performs escort duties (e.g., funerals, parades, etc.).

Serves civil and criminal papers and court orders (e.g., warrants, subpoenas, complaints, summonses, evictions, etc.); prepares accurate, concise, and detailed reports and records relating to service process.

Assists other units and works with other departments requiring assistance to incidents and/or emergency situations (e.g., Highway Patrol, City and Village police departments, EMS, fire departments, etc.) as requested.

Performs miscellaneous law enforcement support duties; follows up on reports and cases; answers inquiries from public; maintains security of county facilities; maintains and services vehicles and equipment; maintains activities log; assists motorists and unlocks vehicles, etc.; may assume responsibility of officer in charge of scene; speaks to citizen groups and organizations; attends civic gatherings and public meetings.

Attends department meetings, training sessions, and certification programs/courses as required.

Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

Maintains required licenses and/or certifications, including firearms proficiency and driver’s license.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Remains informed of current developments and procedures pertinent to duties.

Works overtime as necessary.
