Job Classification: Firefighter / Paramedic-Entry Level
To apply, candidates must have a paramedic certificate or be able to obtain paramedic certification by June 24th, 2025.
Snohomish County Fire District #4 is seeking to establish a hiring list for the entry-level position of Firefighter / Paramedic.
To be considered further in the hiring process, all candidates must take the Fireteam exam through the National Testing Network and have passed the CPAT physical ability test within the last 12 months.
Top-scoring candidates will be notified by email and asked to fill out a Snohomish Fire District #4 job application.

Starting Salary (Probation):
· Monthly: $7,806.17
· Annually: $93,674.04
Top Step pay (firefighter 1st class):
· Monthly: $10,634.81
· Annually: $127,617.72
Additional monthly pay is available for approved degrees and certificates.

Valid WASHINGTON Driver's License: Yes

Vision: Ability to pass Full-time Firefighter Medical Exam
Academy Certification: Yes, you must complete an Approved Fire Academy after hire as determined by the district.
Prior Experience: None
Necessary Certifications:
· Successful completion of first available Approved Fire Academy after hire.
· WA state-certified Paramedic Current Washington State and/or National Registry Paramedic Certification.
· Current ACLS & PALS Certification
· Obtain and maintain certification as a Snohomish County Competency-Based Training (CBT) Instructor within 1 year of the hire date.

Hiring Process:
National Testing Network written test, selected applicants will complete and submit a Fire District 4 application, an Oral Interview, and a Chiefs Interview. Must have successfully passed Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) within six (6) months prior to September 22, 2024.

GENERAL DUTIES:
· Attend assigned shifts promptly
· Follow safe workplace practices and obey safety rules
· Ensure safekeeping and proper care of fire department property
· In the absence of a superior, officers must be able to carry out duties with good judgment.
· Follow established routines for station maintenance
· Accurately document activities using data processing skills
· Perform troubleshooting, testing, replacement, and minor repairs on district apparatus. Report on the need for extensive maintenance.
· Perform general building and grounds upkeep
· Other duties as assigned.
TRAINING:
· Train and demonstrate proficiency in all functions and duties as assigned.
· Maintain fire suppression skills and Paramedic certification through drills, continuing education, and re-certification testing.
· Assist with the organization and planning of drills, and when assigned, present training in relation to all job functions.
· Attend and actively participate in training courses and read/study assigned materials related to all job functions.
· As an advanced EMS provider, actively participate in and provide training and evaluation of district personnel as assigned during day-to-day operations.
FIRE PREVENTION & EDUCATION:
· Inspect and test hydrants, maintain hydrant records, and perform minor maintenance on hydrants.
· Make presentations to the community, station visitors, and school groups on fire and emergency medical safety, including CPR & First Aid, and perform other community service relations, including station tours.
· Maintain a general knowledge and understanding of fire prevention and safety codes and regulations as appropriate.
· Inspect buildings for fire hazards and compliance with fire prevention codes and maintain fire prevention records.
· Perform pre-fire planning of major facilities within the district’s response area.
OPERATIONS:
· Respond to emergency situations and carry out directions from superiors to protect property and life.
· Respond to fire emergencies and operate fire equipment, including hoses, ladders, extinguishers, and hand firefighting tools.
· Ventilate burning buildings by opening windows and skylights or cutting holes in roofs, walls, and floors.
· Respond to medical emergencies and other patient care requests to provide basic life support or advanced life support procedures within the scope of their certification and as applicable to the incident.
· Transport patients to medical care facilities or transfer them to alternative transport care as appropriate to the situation.
· Extricate victims from dangerous situations and assess the extent of injuries or illness and the type of medical treatment required.
· Operate district apparatus in accordance with policy.
· Demonstrate knowledge and practice of certified skills within the policies and procedures established by District Policy, Medical Control Physician, and identified in Washington Administrative Codes.
· Direct Firefighters/EMTs in appropriate patient care and treatment at the emergency medical scene and during transport to a medical facility.
· Operate in hazardous atmospheres wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus.
· Coordinate and/or operate as part of an interior fire attack-line team.
· Complete overhaul operations with the goal of ensuring total fire extinguishment.
· Perform salvage operations, which include placing salvage covers, sweeping water, and removing debris.
· Understand and apply appropriate communication protocol and demonstrate the ability to follow radio policy/procedure.
· Protect evidence of fire origin and cause.
· Operate a variety of computerized equipment, including but not limited to pumps, word processors, and defibrillators.
· Assist special operations teams as assigned.
