(Full–Time) Entry Level and Lateral Transfer

The Sharon Township Police Department is building an ongoing eligibility list for Police Officers. ALL candidates must have OPOTA Certification.

Currently, the police department has three full-time openings and two part-time openings.

The department requires the candidate's PHQ. You can access the questionnaire through your candidate account. NTN suggests completing the PHQ as soon as possible so the hiring process is not delayed.

Salary Information:

FTO Training /Certificating to $50,363.04

Step A to $54,905.76

Step B To $60,933.60

Step C To $68,927.04

Step D To $79,366.56

It takes approximately 4 years or less to advance to Step D. Every year the Chief of Police will submit a salary increase request to the Board of Trustees for approval.

Part-time pay ranges from $15.83 per hour to $20.50 per hour.

Shift Differential Pay: 2^nd shift $1.25 per hour 3^rd shift $1.00 per hour

Department Overview: Sharon Township is a small, unincorporated community surrounding the City of Worthington, Ohio. The Sharon Township Police Department consists of 10 Full-Time and 4 part-time officers. We are dedicated to the community policing concept, and because we are a small community, our officers feel they can make a direct difference within the community. The 10 full-time personnel include the Chief of Police, Lieutenant, and Sergeant.

Necessary Certifications:
Must have previously attended a police academy certified by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy and passed the State of Ohio certification test.

Schooling Prior and Post Hiring:
Graduation from an accredited high school or the equivalent and completion of the Ohio Peace Officer's Training Program.

Honest/Falsification
Applicants will be removed from the eligibility list for any of the following reasons:
1. Applicants must answer truthfully and fully all questions asked of them. Any misrepresentation or omission of any material fact on the application; during the background investigation; or in any phase of the selection process shall disqualify the applicant. If an investigation discloses a willful misrepresentation, omission, or falsification, the application will be rejected.
2. Any attempt to distort the polygraph examination results.
3. Use or attempted use of political influence to secure employment.
Family History
Applicants will be removed from the eligibility list for any of the following reasons:
1. Cannot have committed or been convicted of a domestic violence related crime or have a conviction on any charge that is a reduction from domestic violence or related violation.
2. Non-compliance with a court order or legal contract to provide child support, alimony or other financial responsibility as determined by the appropriate support enforcement bureau or a court of law within the preceding five (5) years.
Employment
Applicants will be removed from the eligibility list for any of the following reasons:
1. Three (3) or more involuntary terminations and/or discharges from employment within the last five (5) years. This shall not include terminations resulting from a business ceasing operations or resulting from being laid off from a position of employment.
2. Dismissal from public service for delinquency, misconduct, or inefficiency.
Military History
Applicants will be removed from the eligibility list for any of the following reasons:
1. Dishonorable or Less than Honorable discharge from military service.
2. Conviction of any article of the Uniform Code of Military Justice that would be equivalent to a felony under the Ohio Revised Code (ORC).
Traffic
Applicants will be removed from the eligibility list for any of the following reasons:
1. Driving record that indicates a pattern of unsafe driving.
2. Any conviction of vehicular homicide shall permanently eliminate an applicant from consideration.
3. Any conviction in the last five (5) years in any court of competent jurisdiction of DUI/DWI, reckless driving, revocation, or suspension of driving privileges, or are currently under such revocation or suspension may be disqualified.
4. Four (4) moving violations in the past three (3) years as an adult.
5. At the time of the first interview, the applicant does not possess a valid driver's license and auto insurance as required by the residence state and if the applicant owns a car.
Felony, Criminal Activity
Applicants will be removed from the eligibility list for any of the following reasons:

Felony;
1. Any admission or conviction of an offense, as an adult, defined as a felony by the federal, state or local law of the jurisdiction where the offense occurred. An admission of a felony offense would be disqualifying unless otherwise addressed by these standards.
Misdemeanor;
1. Conviction of any offense of theft, dishonesty, a crime of violence, or a crime relating to job performance in the last five years. The applicant also must not have committed two or more offenses that would show a pattern of criminal behavior.
Weapon Offenses;
1. Conviction of any offense related to the carry or use of a weapon.
Sexual Offenses;
1. Any conviction of a sex related crime.
Gambling Offenses;
1. Current or a history of association or involvement with any illegal gambling activities or any other organized crime.
Other disqualifiers to be determined by the Chief of Police or designee.
Alcohol, Drug or Illegal Substances
Applicants will be removed from the eligibility list for any of the following reasons:
1. Drugs: (Except marijuana) the applicant may not have committed or been convicted of any use, sales, distribution or possession of any drugs in the past five years.
2. Marijuana: The applicant may not have committed or been convicted of the distribution or sale of marijuana in the past five (5) years. The applicant may not have used or possessed marijuana in the last three (3) years.
3. Addiction: The applicant may not abuse or be addicted to alcohol, drugs, gambling or sex. The applicant may not have received treatment for any of the above addictions in the past two years
Applicant non-responsiveness
An applicant shall be removed from the process for any of the following reasons:
1. Failure to appear for pre-interview/interview.
2. Failure to appear for truth verification examination.
3. Failure to appear for psychological exam.
4. Failure to return Personal History Questionnaire or Supplemental Questionnaire, or to respond to phone calls or correspondence from Background personnel.
5. Unable to locate at address/phone number on file.
6. Applicant is no longer interested in employment with the Department
7. Failure to appear for oral board.
