Job Classification: Police Officer (Entry Level & Lateral)

Tillamook Police Department is building an ongoing eligibility list for Entry Level and Lateral Police Officers. Entry Level candidates must complete the ORPAT and Frontline National tests for this position. ORPAT is scheduled separately from the NTN home page. You must schedule both a Frontline National and ORPAT test for this position.

Lateral Police Officer candidates who are currently certified as a Police Officer in the State of Oregon only need to complete the department application. Follow the link below. All other Lateral candidates will need to complete all the testing listed above.

Salary Information:
$26.90 to $36.66 hourly

Benefits Information: The City of Tillamook provides an excellent health coverage plan for employee and eligible dependents, including medical, vision, prescription, dental, life insurance, and long-term disability. Officers pay 10% of the medical premium at present. All uniforms and equipment provided. Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the regular rate of pay. City of Tillamook employees participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement (PERS) retirement plan with the employee paying their 6%. Paid vacation and sick time with the ability to accrue up to 80 hours in compensatory time. Employees earn 10 hours of holiday pay each month. Eligible employees may receive incentive pay for special assignments such as Corporal, Detective & School Resource Officer earn 5% above base pay. DPSST Certification pay; Intermediate is 3%, Advanced is 5%. Shift differential is 4% a month for those Officers assigned night shift during that month. For those Officers who are assigned as a Field Training Officer will receive 4% a month when actively training. Those Officers who frequent (8 times a month) a City approved workout facility earn $50 a month.

Department Overview: The City of Tillamook Police Departments currently employs 12 employees (11 sworn, 1 non-sworn) working together as a Team to support our mission, "Serving the Community by Providing Quality Public Safety With Respect, Ethics, and Professionalism”. The Tillamook Police Department is a full-service police department with opportunities for special assignments such as Criminal Detective, Evidence, Traffic Enforcement, Tactical Team, and Field Training Officer. Patrol shifts are three 12-hour days with one 8-hour day every other week. This is followed by three or four days off. Patrol shift day shifts are from 6am-6pm and nights are 6pm-6am. Shifts adjust from one end of the week to the next every six months ie; Mon, Tue, Wed every other Sunday moves to Thr, Fri, Sat and every other Sunday.

City Information: The City of Tillamook is on the northern coast of Oregon just 74 miles west of Portland next to Tillamook Bay. As the county seat, it is the center of business in the region and the crossroads from which visitors can reach Tillamook County’s many beaches, parks, and recreational opportunities.

Tillamook has long been a hard-working community built around the area’s timber, dairy, and fishing industries. Today, with a rapidly growing tourism industry added to the mix, the city is enjoying a renaissance. Minimum Qualifications::
Participate in competitive testing including physical fitness testing, reading comprehension, writing skills, written, physical/vision, hearing and psychological examinations, and be able to pass strict Police Department background investigation and drug testing. Must pass the pre-employment drug test. Must pass the pre-employment background check. Must be able to work periodic overtime and a variety of 24 hour rotating shifts including holidays and weekends. Ability to complete departmental recruit training course and to gain eligibility for Basic Certificate issued by the Oregon Board of Public Safety Standards and Training.

Schooling Prior and Post Hiring:
Be able to be certified as a police officer by the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training - DPSST Minimum Standards of Employment as a Law Enforcement Officer are located at www.oregon.gov/DPSST (Administrative Rule 259-008-0010).

Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers:
Felony convictions. Misdemeanor convictions for: Domestic violence (DV); Currently named as the Respondent in a Restraining Order Crime of dishonesty; and/or, Crime that resulted in serious physical injury to another. Any repeated convictions of an offense which indicate disrespect for the law, a lack of good moral character or disposition towards violence and disorder.

Driving Disqualifiers:
No major traffic violations in the last three years and not more than one major traffic violation during a lifetime.

Drug Use Disqualifiers:
Illegal manufacture, transport, or sale of a controlled substance.

Employment Disqualifiers:
Discharge from employment, where such discharge indicates poor behavior and/or an inability adjusting to discipline. A Dishonorable Discharge from the armed forces.

Other Hiring Information :
OUT OF STATE CANDIDATES:
If you have a valid and current PAT test from another State, you will still need to submit an ORPAT score because ORPAT is required as part of acquiring your Oregon DPSST certificate at the Academy once hired.
