Reserve Corps members are non-paid, volunteer police officers and do not receive compensation of any form.

Job Requirements

Eligibility Requirements:

Ability to work lawfully in the US
At least 20 1/2 years of age at time of application
At least 21 years of age at the official date of appointment
Read and speak English
Possess any valid US driver’s license at the time of application
Pass a police officer selection exam
Pass a physical ability test
Submit to a polygraph examination
Pass a medical examination, including a drug-screening
Pass a psychological examination
Possess a high moral character for carrying out law enforcement duties

In addition to GED or high school diploma, you must have one of the following:

60 completed college credit hours in any subject matter. Credits from any accredited college or university will be accepted; or
Two years of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States, including the Organized Reserves and National Guard, and, if separated from the military, an honorable discharge; or
Three years in a full-duty status with a full-service police department in a municipality or a state within the United States, and have resigned or retired in good standing.

Additionally, as an MPD Reserve, please make sure you are aware of the following:

Initial recruit training consists of a 7 - 8 month academy meeting, in-person, every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30pm to 10:30pm and on Saturdays from 7:00am - 3:00pm (with one Saturday off per month). Academy training takes place at 4665 Blue Plains Drive SW.
80 hours (two weeks) of basic firearms instruction held Monday through Friday (6:30am - 3:00pm) or Monday through Friday (3pm - 11:30pm).
16 hours (two days) of emergency vehicle operation held during the standard workday, 6:30am - 3:00pm.

Upon completing initial reserve recruit training, you will be required to maintain 24 hours of volunteer service per month.
