Department Information: The City of Cocoa is a small community with an employee base of approximately 430 employees. Our mission is “to enrich the quality of life for our unique and diverse community by delivering Professional, Responsive, Innovative, Dedicated and Exceptional public services.” The Cocoa Fire department was organized in 1920 by volunteers operating out of one fire station in the area that is now Historic Cocoa Village. In 1927 the department appointed its first Volunteer Fire Chief and in 1959 the City hired its first career Fire Chief. Today, the department provides reliable emergency medical care, fire suppression, hazard mitigation and emergency preparedness and management through innovative service delivery that is responsive to the needs of the community. Headed by the Fire Chief the department is comprised of three District Fire Chiefs and thirty-nine Firefighters and/or Paramedics. Serving from three fire stations, the department responds to approximately 4,500 incidents per year with more than 90% of the calls being first responder medical calls.
City Information: The City of Cocoa is ideally located in Central Brevard County accessible by Interstate 95, State Roads 528, 520 and 524 and within minutes to Port Canaveral, Kennedy Space Center, and beautiful beaches. The City is just a short drive to Orlando International Airport and area attractions. Centrally located in the Space Coast region of Florida, Cocoa is rich in history and offers many unique experiences. We have a historic downtown shopping district with a variety of stores and restaurants with waterfront views and historic venues. The City has a historic charm and boasts several historic landmarks such as the Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse, Porcher House, Derby Street Chapel, and the Moore Center to name a few.
Population: The City of Cocoa is a diverse and unique community with a population of 19,286. The diverse make-up of the City consists of 54.5% of the population is White, 27.8% of the population is Black, 15.8% of the population is Hispanic and 0.12% is other.
