Job Classification: Part-time firefighter EMT or EMT only. With 12 and 24-hour shifts, Part-time members choose the days or nights they are available. Members are required to work a minimum of 6/12 or 3/ 24 (72 total) hours a month and a maximum of 12/13 hour or 6/24 hour shifts or 156 hours a month.

Department Overview: The department employs a Fire Chief, 1 Deputy Chief, one part-time Deputy Chief, 5 full-time firefighters, 3 Firefighter paramedics, and 14 Part-time members. The District responds to approximately 1300 alarms per year. The district was one ALS unit Two BLS units, Two type one structure engines one type 6 Brush engine one type 3 Brush engine one 3000-gallon water tender, and a Hover Craft with a support unit. District 5 Provides ALS/BLS service and transport Structure and wildland fire protection and rescue services (swift water)
Area Information: Fire District #5 proudly serves approximately 11,000 people living in the Sultan & Startup areas. We operate out of two stations that protect 72 square miles of primarily rural area in Snohomish County. Some of the critical infrastructure in which Fire District #5 has its jurisdiction is the Highway 2 corridor, BNSF mainline, natural gas mains, and PUD substations. Fire District #5 has several water bodies within its jurisdiction that are used for recreation. These include the Sultan River, Skykomish River, Elwell Creek, Youngs Creek, Wagley Creek, Winter’s Lake, Kellogg Lake, Cedar Ponds, and Lake 16.
