Marion County Fire Rescue will be conducting a hiring process for Dual-Certified Firefighter/Paramedic; job posting on March 2, 2023, and will remain open until positions filled. County applications will be accepted only during open job posting and must be submitted online by visiting the Marion County Human Resources website. After the closing date, the department will email applicants regarding the next phase of the selection process.
DUTY SCHEDULE
Firefighter/Paramedic – 24 hours on-duty / 48 hours off –duty (24/48), after orientation has been successfully completed.
Marion County Fire Rescue has implemented a career educational ladder which ensures upward financial movement associated with required education. More information upon request.

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:
MCFR is the second largest fire rescue department north of Orlando and more than 726 employees strong with a $100 million budget and 25 career fire stations and 3 EMS stations. The department's full-time state certified firefighter/paramedics, firefighter/EMTs, EMTs and paramedics serve more than 350,000 citizens, cover 1,600 square miles and respond to an average of 300 emergencies a day. MCFR provides an array of services to include ALS/BLS and Critical Care Transport, Fire Suppression, Technical Rescue, and Hazmat.
COUNTY INFORMATION:
On average, Marion County is about a two-hour drive from many of Florida's major cities, Gainesville is 40 minutes north and Orlando is 75 minutes to the south, while Daytona Beach is about 90 minutes to the east. Tampa is about 75 minutes to the southwest. Jacksonville is roughly a two-hour drive northeast.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Age: 18 Years of Age
US Citizen: Lawfully work in the U.S.
High School Grad/GED: High School diploma or G.E.D.
Valid Florida State Driver's License: Must Have a Valid Florida Driver License.
Ability to Read/Speak English: Must be able to read and speak the English Language. Vision: Vision requirements follow the guidelines as outlined in NFPA 1582.

SPECIFIC DISQUALIFIERS/BEHAVIORS:
FELONY/CRIMINAL ACTIVITY: A criminal history background investigation is conducted prior to hire, following Florida Statute 112.011 regarding felony convictions.
DRIVING: A poor driving record will classify a candidate as undesirable; however, it will not necessarily remove a candidate from consideration.
DRUG USE: Marion County is a drug-free work place. A pre-employment drug screen is conducted prior to hire.
