Job Classification: Full-Time Patrol Officer

Olmsted Township Police Department is currently building an ongoing eligibility list for Patrol Officer. Starting Salary Information: $53,618 / Top out or lateral transfers $74,589

Benefit Information: OPBA Collective Bargaining Agreement. $1200.00 clothing allowance annually. All hired officers will be issued all required police uniforms, equipment, and bulletproof vest. 12 hour shifts.

Department Information: The Olmsted Township Police Department is a community-oriented police agency that provides professional, full service policing with highly trained personnel. The Police Department proactively patrols 10.0 square miles and serves approximately 16,000 residents. The Police Department operates a Patrol Bureau, Detective Bureau, SRO/ DARE program, drone program, ebike / bike patrol unit and other specialized services.

The department is comprised of a Chief of Police, Lieutenant of Police, one Detective, 5 Sergeants, 12 full time patrol officers, and 1 part-time patrol officer.

Schooling Prior and Post Hiring: Must complete annual agency in-service training required by the federal, state and local laws and agency accrediting bodies. Must successfully certify on 9mm handgun, 12 gauge shotgun, and .223 patrol rifle annually.

Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors: Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers

Admission, conviction or adjudication of having committed any act defined as a felony including felony-misdemeanor offenses) under Ohio law, federal law, the law of another state or the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
Violent misdemeanor convictions (expunged records included).

Driving Disqualifiers

Conviction of one DUI violation within the preceding five years.
Conviction of a second DUI violation.
No DUS or Reckless Operation arrests within the last 3 years

Drug Use Disqualifiers

Individuals who have, at any time, illegally sold, delivered, distributed, or manufactured drugs; those who have used any prescription drugs or a legally obtained substance in a manner for which it was not intended within the previous 36 months; those who have used a prescription drug in its original intended manner but without the proper prescription or legal justification in the previous 12 months or those who have used any other illegal drug within the previous 36 months are not considered eligible for employment with the Olmsted Township Police Department.

Employment Disqualifiers; Applicants must meet all minimum qualifications.

Termination from an employer for any theft offense.

Disciplinary action or termination due to any sexual misconduct or harassment complaints.

Misrepresentation on application.

Dishonesty on application or during hiring process.

Inability to work midnight shifts, weekends, or holidays

Financial concerns will be reviewed on an individual basis.

Additional Disqualifiers

Admissions or administrative findings of any act while employed as a peace officer (including military police officers) involving lying, falsification of any official report or document or theft.
Admissions or conviction of any act of family violence as defined by law, committed as an adult, committed against children including, but not limited to, molesting or annoying children, child abduction, child abuse, criminal sexual conduct or indecent exposure.
Any history of work-related actions resulting in civil lawsuits that found against the applicant or his/her employer may be disqualifying.

Issuance of Conditional Offer of Employment:

A conditional appointment may be made on based on the condition that candidate successfully passes a psychological evaluation, medical examination and drug test.

Psychological Examination – All candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment will be required to take a psychological examination.

Physical and Drug Screen – A licensed physician will conduct a complete medical examination to determine fitness to perform the essential job functions.
