Court Detention Technician
The City of Aurora is accepting applications and has opened testing to establish an eligibility list for the position of Court Detention Technician (non-sworn) in the Aurora Police Department.
Under the supervision of the Court Detention Supervisors, the Court Detention Technician performs a variety of law enforcement support duties in a municipal corrections environment. Duties of this position may include but are not limited to: Process (book) prisoners - fingerprinting, photographing, completing departmental forms, and assisting sworn police officers, as necessary; Monitor and provide security for prisoners in the jail and at bond calls; Prepare prisoners for transfers to other correctional facilities; Provide support for sworn personnel and assisting in related or assigned duties, as necessary; Assist with building security; Testify in court proceedings as needed; Communicate and maintain a positive working relationship with all other bureaus and divisions within the Police Department.
This position requires a high school diploma or G.E.D. and must possess a valid driver’s license. Experience in a correctional environment is preferred. This position may require you to work the 1st, 2nd or 3rd shift. Applicants must be able to work the shift assigned to them. New hires will be required to attend a corrections academy.
Must be able to successfully pass job simulation test, meet the requirements of a physical agility test*, polygraph assessment, psychological evaluation, background investigation, interview, drug screen and physical.
This is a full-time, union position. Beginning salary is $34.38/hour, after 6 months $35.15/hour, and annual increases thereafter, according to the Labor Agreement. Excellent benefit package.
AURORA POLICE DEPT. TATTOO POLICY:
Tattoos to the head, neck and facial area are prohibited. Hand tattoos are not allowed, however, there are very limited exceptions with approval from the Chief of Police.
Officers are permitted to have tattoos elsewhere, visible to the public, if the tattoo is not objectionable or demeaning to the image of the Department. The nature, number, size, and location of the tattoos are all factors in determining whether such tattoos are objectionable or demeaning. Examples include but are not limited to; tattoos that contain nudity, profanity, or to be perceived as gang related, criminal, obscene, sexual, racial, or detracts from the professional image of a law enforcement officer.
The covering of objectionable tattoos with make-up, sleeves, Band-Aids, etc., shall not constitute conforming to this policy. All tattoos shall be covered for court appearances.
