Sylvania Township Police Department is hiring for the position of Police Officer. All entry-level police officer applicants must take the FrontLine National exam through National Testing Network by October 24, 2025 and MUST already be OPOTA certified, or OPOTA certified by January 31, 2026. The department also requires the Personal History Questionnaire, which you can access through your candidate account. Please direct any testing questions to National Testing Network.
Lateral transfer applications are also being accepted. Lateral Transfer candidates may apply without taking the NTN test, and instead submit a Lateral Transfer Application, which can be found on our website, www.sylvaniatownshippolice.com/careers/. Salary Information: $74,443 (step 1) – $93,121 (step 5), annually (based on 2026 rates)

Area Information: Sylvania Township is one of the eleven townships in Lucas County, Ohio. A three-member Board of Trustees, a Fiscal Officer, and a full-time Administrator govern the township. There are seven main departments: Administration, Fire, Police, Road, Fiscal, Zoning and Service.
Population: As of 2020, the township, including the City of Sylvania, had a total population of 50,679, making it the second most populous subdivision in Lucas County.
Minimum Requirements:
Age: At least 21 years of age, and no older than 40 years of age, by application deadline date
Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen
High School Grad/GED: Graduation from high school or possession of GED certificate
College: At least 64 semester (96 Quarter) hours at an accredited college or university by date of hire
Valid Driver's License: Able to produce valid driver’s license at time of Background Investigation
Prior Experience: Not Required, but preferred
Necessary Certifications: Ohio Basic Peace Officer (OPOTA) certification by January 31, 2026
Work Schedule: Must be able to work all shifts, days, weekends, holidays, and overtime

I. Drug and Nicotine screen
J. Police Chief's Recommendation to the Board of Trustees
Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors: A list of representative criminal and traffic offenses (or any equivalent municipal ordinance or law of any other state) that is cause for disqualification is described further in this section.
