To: Prospective Police Officer Candidates Subject: 2025 Civil Service Police Officer Testing
Testing Dates (Written): Open written exam administered by National Testing Network (www.nationaltestingnetwork.com) continuously throughout the year.
When a vacancy exists, the written scores will be obtained from NTN and the candidate will be notified of a deadline to submit their application and required documentation to proceed in the hiring process.

Lateral transfers with at least two years of continuous experience, without a break in service as a full-time police officer in Ohio, are highly encouraged to apply. Lateral applicants are not required to submit a written test through NTN. Go directly to www.grandviewheights.gov to complete an application as a Lateral transfer.
The minimum requirements for consideration as an entry-level Police Officer are:
· United States Citizen (or a permanent resident authorized to work in the U.S.)
· Valid Ohio Driver’s License.
· High School Diploma or equivalent.
· Be at least 21 years old (not yet 36 years old) at the time of appointment. If currently serving as a full-time sworn police officer in the State of Ohio (or served as a full- time sworn police officer within one (1) year prior to appointment), the candidate's current age shall be reduced by the number of years served as a full-time sworn officer in the State of Ohio.
· Have a current and valid Ohio Peace Officer Training Certificate OR be able to complete an approved Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy (OPOTA) and successfully pass the State Certification Examination prior to appointment.
To be considered, each candidate must upload the following documents with their test scores under the Candidate Documents section on their National Testing Network account:
· Completed Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ)
· Copy of High School Diploma or GED
· Copy of Driver’s License
· Copy of Birth Certificate (and Permanent Resident Card if applicable)
· Copy of Ohio Peace Officer Training Certificate (If applicable)
· NOTE: Additional points may be added to scores for applicants with prior military experience (Honorable Discharge) and the completion of a college degree or equivalent college credit (minimum of sixty (60) hours completed). Additional points will ONLY be added if the applicant passes the written examination with a minimum passing grade. A copy of discharge papers (DD214) showing Honorable Discharge, college diploma, or college transcript (with minimum of sixty (60) hours completed) must be submitted via National Testing Network in order to receive extra points.
*Military Experience – Ten (10) additional points may be added to the applicant's score (must provide documentation). Current military reservists are eligible for five (5) additional points.
*Associate Degree (or equivalent college credit, minimum sixty (60) hours completed – Three additional points may be added to the applicant's score (must provide a copy of college transcript).
*College Diploma (Bachelor or higher) – Five (5) additional points may be added to the applicant's score (must provide a copy of college diploma).
A candidate may not receive more than ten (10) additional points from any one or combination of education and experience points.

WRITTEN EXAMINATION
The written examination will be open continuously throughout the year. When a vacancy exists, test scores will be obtained from NTN and those candidates with a passing score will be placed on an eligibility list for hire. Any extra points will be added to the candidate scores who passed the written examination, and those candidates will be ranked. DATE AND LOCATION OF TEST
The written examination is offered through National Testing Network at multiple times and locations throughout the United States. For a complete list of locations, examination dates and times, and to register for the exam, please visit www.nationaltestingnetwork.com.
PASSING SCORE
A candidate must score at least 70% (average weighted score) to pass the exam. Weighting Parameters are as follows: Video Score 20%, Writing Score 40%, Reading Score 40%.

Candidates who successfully pass the written and physical agility tests will be ranked and included in the eligibility list. The top ten (10) candidates will proceed through the following hiring process:
1. Panel Interview
2. Personal History Questionnaire and Background Investigation, to include a truth verification examination
3. Medical Examination
4. Drug/Alcohol Screen
5. Psychological Evaluation
6. Offer for Employment
The successful candidate may be required to attend an approved Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) if they have not previously obtained their State Certification or at the Police Chief’s discretion.
