Annual Salary Information: $80,748 - $101,700

Hillsboro Police Department offers Bi-Lingual Pay: Employees who are qualified by the department as bi-lingual in English and Spanish or Japanese, or a language spoken by over ten percent (10%) of City residents as documented by the most recent U.S. Census will receive a monthly premium of five percent (5%) of their regular base pay.

Hiring Process:City of Hillsboro application and National Testing Network Directions
Step 1 - Eligible persons who are qualified and interested in applying for the positions and sign-up with the www.nationaltestingnetwork.com. Select Police Officer and sign up for City of Hillsboro Police Department opening. NTN testing must be completed, and scores released to Hillsboro Police Department by the 11:59pm, August 3, 2025. The City of Hillsboro/Hillsboro Police Department minimum passing score is: Video 65%, Writing 70% and Reading 70%. Tests taken prior to this position opening must be shared with the department; please contact NTN on how to share prior scores (a fee may be charged for sharing/transferring a prior score) or contact Cindy Tucker at cindy.tucker@hillsboro-oregon.gov if you have any questions about prior NTN test scores. Prior hiring processes NTN scores are not automatically transferred to new hiring processes; please reach out to Cindy Tucker with any questions. Applicants submitting transcripts with their application verifying that they possess at least a four-year academic degree from an institution recognized by DPSST (OAR 259-008-0045) are exempt from the Law Enforcement Frontline exam. Step 2 – Complete a City of Hillsboro/Hillsboro Police Department application which is located here: https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/hillsboro and applicants who have successfully passed the NTN testing, will have their application evaluated based on minimum requirements, work experience, training, and skills presented in the employment application and resume.
Step 3 – ORPAT: If an applicant has run ORPAT and has a passing score of 5:30 or less within 12 months of August 3, 2025, you will not need to retest. Prior ORPAT scores can be attached to your application. Hillsboro Police Department will also accept NTN ORPAT scores; please attach your score to your application. ORPAT invites will be sent out to everyone who has not provided a score and information about when and where we are hosting ORPAT will be included in that email invite.
Step 4 - Selected applicants will be invited to participate in the next stages of the selection process including oral board interview, extensive background investigation, and Executive Staff interviews. All applicants will be notified in writing of the final status of their application.Step 5 – Any applicant who receives a conditional offer of employment will be subject to passing a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and psychological evaluation.
