Job Classification: Police Officer – Lateral

The City of Silverton is currently hiring for Police Officer - Lateral or Entry.

This position requires that both:
1) FrontLine National and ORPAT testing, and
2) City application complete with cover letter and resume

ORPAT is scheduled separately from the NTN home page. You must complete both a FrontLine National and ORPAT test for this position. Testing for both FrontLine National and ORPAT is available at the Brooks campus of Chemeketa Community College (4910 Brooklake Rd NE, Brooks, OR 97305).

Salary Information: $28.56/hr-$36.45/hr (Effective July 1, 2024, hourly rates will increase 5% to $29.99/hr-$38.28/hr)

Incentives:

· $175 per month for Intermediate Certification

· $350 per month for Intermediate and Advanced Certification (after the probation period is completed)

Silverton Police Officers may also receive premium pay for Detective
assignment, Field Training Officer assignment, Motorcycle Assignment, bilingual proficiency, and longevity pay.

Department Overview: The Silverton Police Department received state accreditation under NWAA in 2009 and was recently re-accredited in 2022. The department provides citizens with 24-hour law enforcement services. In addition to general law enforcement services, the agency has specialty positions of Detective, Motorcycle Traffic Officer, and School Resource Officer (contract). The agency supports a Community Service Officer, Municipal Court, and Juvenile Municipal and Peer Court. The department has a full-time staffing level of 17.

Vision:
DPPST Standard: Visual acuity corrected to 20/20 (uncorrected no worse than 20/200), possess normal color discrimination and peripheral vision.

Schooling Prior and Post Hiring:
Once hired must pass and complete 16 week Basic Police Training Academy at DPSST.

Hiring Process:
Applicants must submit a completed City application, detailed resume and cover letter.

Lateral applicants will be invited to interview.

Recruit (entry-level) applicants must pass a physical ability test, written test and complete the interview process. Applicants who completed the National Testing Network (NTN) Frontline exam within the last year, with scores on file, may be invited to interview depending on the score.

Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors:
Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers: No Felony Convictions, No Misdemeanor Domestic Violence Convictions that impact the ability to carry and possess a firearm.

Driving Disqualifiers: No felony or misdemeanor driving convictions. No class A infraction convictions during the past 36 months, no more than one within last 36 to 60 months. No more than one class B infraction during the past 12 months. No more than two within last 36 to 60 months.

Drug Use Disqualifiers: Must pass a drug screen for conditional offer. Not allowed to use recreational marijuana as it is still a controlled substance by the Federal Government.
