The Shelby Police Department is currently building an ongoing eligibility list for Police Officer, and has immediate openings for (2) Police Officers. Candidates will be placed on an eligibility list for potential vacancies in the future.

Salary Information: $28.15/HR up to $31.62/HR start of Third Year
Benefit Information: 12-hour shifts, Shift Differential, Holiday Pay, Longevity Pay, Uniform Allowance, Specialty Pay Equivalent to 3 HRS Pay per Pay Period (Capped at 9 HRS), 80 hrs vacation after the first year, incremental up to 200 hrs after 20 years. (Lateral entry may bring years of service for vacation credit.) Police and Fire Pension, Health (no monthly premium), Dental, Vision and Life Insurance. Competitive Lateral Entry package.

Department Overview: The Shelby Police Department is a 21 person department that works collaboratively with several other agencies. Opportunities for county wide hostage negotiation, swat teams, and fire dive/rescue teams. Two school resource officers, bicycle patrol, and DARE officer. A new justice center including a jail opened in 2014. Additional training and instruction opportunities available. Opportunities for advancement within five years.
Area Information: Shelby is a small, rural community located in Northwestern Richland County. We have excellent schools, including a new high school in 2013 and a new Pre-K-8 facility in 2022, several parks, a community YMCA, several churches, and affordable housing. We are ten minutes from a larger commercial retail shopping area and halfway between Cleveland and Columbus.
