The Chehalis Police Department currently has two Police Officer vacancies. The Department requires both FrontLine National testing, a valid PAT, and the Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) to be considered. The PHQ can be completed by logging into your NTN account.
Salary Information:
$5,320 per month for entry-level police officers during Basic Law enforcement academy
$6,651 - $8,050 per month after graduating from the academy

Department Overview:
The Chehalis Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency serving roughly 3,185 households and 600 businesses within the Chehalis city limits, as well as visitors and non-residents conducting business within the City. The Chehalis Police Department is a Washington State Accredited law enforcement agency patrolling over five square miles within Lewis County.
The department is headed by a Chief and Deputy Chief. The patrol division consists of three Patrol Sergeants, and ten Patrol Officers. Specialty programs include traffic motorcycles, SWAT, an interagency drug unit, and various instructor positions.
The detective unit handles major crimes, crime analysis, and criminal intelligence and is made up of a Detective Sergeant and two Detectives. The support staff consists of an Administrative Assistant to the Chief, two Records Tehnicians, a Records Technician/Evidence Technician, an Animal Control/Nuisance Abatement Officer, and a limited commission Parking Enforcement Officer.
The Detective Sergeant and Anti-Crime Officer positions are three-year rotating positions. Extensions are available with the Chief’s approval.
All officers, except the Chief and Deputy Chief of Police, are members of the Guild.

Chehalis is a growing community located in Lewis County just off the I-5 corridor and sits midway between Seattle and Portland. We are perfectly situated between the State Capitol, mountain passes and beaches providing the opportunity to enjoy all outdoor activities year-round right in our own back yard.

For bicycle enthusiasts, there is a great bicycle path, the 56-mile-long Willapa Hills Trail, running from Chehalis to South Bend. We are also a main stop during the annual Seattle to Portland bicycle ride.
Chehalis School District 302 serves 3,012 students with a comprehensive academic and extra-curricular program for grades Kindergarten through 12. The District has a statewide recognized reputation for excellence in instructional programs as demonstrated by student performance on statewide and national standardized testing programs.
Chehalis has a nighttime population of 7,300 and a daytime population of approximately 20,000. The City was founded in 1852 by Stuart Schuyler Saunders and was originally called Saundersville. The city became Chehalis in 1859 and incorporated in 1883. Chehalis started as an industrial city, with logging, sawmills and the farming of grain, hay, hops and fruit being the major activities. Industry remains a mainstay of modern-day Chehalis. The thriving industrial park is currently home to nearly 30 businesses and is still growing. There are three national historic districts within the City. These districts feature many small, independent businesses in a quaint main street setting and provide a wonderful venue for annual events.

Academy Certification : Entry Level must be able to obtain basic law enforcement certification from the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission.

Hiring Process : Selection is based on civil service rules. Applicants must pass all testing requirements through the National Testing Network. Honorably discharged Veteran’s will receive points for their service.Once selected by our department, the applicant must pass an oral interview, a polygraph screening, a psychological screening, a background screening, a medical examination and a drug screening.Once chosen, the applicant must successfully complete the Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy and an internal Field Training Program.
